    Learn the different techniques for making fast Super-G and downhill turns from world-renowned ski racer Travis Ganong. Hear how Ganong went from ranking 250th to 29th in the world in just half a season by mastering this concept. Watch slow-motion videos of his performances for critique.

    The event, hosted at Start Haus, is free and open to the public. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be recorded and posted on our website after the event.

    The delicate nature of Nordic Skis has turned grinding their bases into an art form. The bases are very thin, and cannot take the grinding pressure from a normal stone grinder. The Start Haus has acquired the ultimate stone grinder for race skis. The Wintersteiger RS 350 is designed specifically for delicate finish work. This machine has more adjustment variables than any other stone grinder on the market. You can infinitely vary the speed of the stone, the speed of the feed wheel that sends the skis through the stone, and the pressure of the feed wheel. It can produce patterns that will work in any snow temperatures, humidity’s, and snow crystal shapes.

    Join world-renowned ski racer Travis Ganong at Palisades Tahoe just a few days after the World Cup. Learn how Travis approaches the course, his takeaways from watching athletes compete, and tips for racing at the World Cup level. All participants will meet at the bottom of the Red Dog chair at Palisades at 9am.  

    We are accepting a limited amount of people for this event - capping it at 10. Event sign ups will open on Thursday, February 22 at 6pm and spots will be first come first served, based on the order of online sign ups. Sign ups are only accepted online through the form below. Those who are granted a spot will be notified as soon as possible. Lift tickets are not included.

    Welcome to the team Travis!

    We are thrilled to announce a partnership with world-renowned ski race athlete, and Tahoe local, Travis Ganong. This partnership upholds our goal of supporting local athletes and our commitment to providing the best ski and bootfitting services in the Tahoe area. From the casual skier to the elite competitor, everyone deserves to slide on snow with skis and boots that fit them and maximize their day on the mountain. 

    In addition, this partnership provides an opportunity for us to share our passion for snowsports with the local community. We've collaborated with Travis to host a four-date event series this winter. Several of the planned events will include a live stream on our website allowing you to tune in from anywhere.   7. Dames of Dirt + Start Haus Group Ride, Aug 22

    Dames of Dirt + Start Haus Group Ride, Aug 22

    Join Dames of Dirt for an intermediate ladies ride on Tuesday AUGUST 22 starting from the shop! Meet at Start Haus at 5PM. Wheels up at 5:15PM to accommodate the shuttle.

    The Dames will ride Donner Lake Rim Trail (Castle Valley & Johnson Canyon). Expect some climbing, a bit of chonk, & big views.

    The shuttle will be first come first served (first 15 ppl), & will run from Start Haus to the Boreal exit on 1-80. If we run out of space, the Dames can coordinate additional shuttles with available cars. Please come prepared with the necessary tools & fuels! The trail ends on the West end of Donner Lake, & we will ride back to the shop from there. Bike lights & hi-vis clothing are recommended for this section. Post-ride ice cream or dock hangs may be in order.

    The Nukeproof demo team is heading to the shop... let's ride!

    Demo days provide a great opportunity to check out a brand's fit, build, model, and much more. If you haven't been to a demo day before, there is no better time to take a bike for a test ride... and at no charge!

    Friday, August 18 Demo at Start Haus: 10am to 6pm

    The Nukeproof trailer will be sending demos out directly from our shop location. Take a spin to the Jackass trail network or a quick rip around town.

    Saturday, August 19 Demo at the Happy Face Trailhead: 10am to 6pm

    Check out the Nukeproof lineup on the 06 at the Happy Face/Sawtooth trailhead. We will be out there with the Start Haus pop-up tent answering questions and getting you out on the dirt with Nukeproof.

    First-come-first-served. An ID and CC are required to take out demo bikes.

    HEADS UP!  UPCOMING SHOP CLOSURES

    On Tuesday, June 27 the shop will be closed due to our parking lot being repaved. While we never like to close the shop, being open when repaving is happening is a very unpleasant experience for both our employees and customers... trust us, we've tried.

    Thank you for your understanding! We will reopen with regular hours on Wednesday, June 28.

    In celebration of the 4th of July, the shop will also be closed on Tuesday, July 4. Ski, paddle, pedal, there are so many options in Tahoe this year, we hope you can get outside and enjoy the holiday too! We will reopen on Wednesday, July 5 with regular hours.
